Candidates Speak Out In Benson

Fifteen candidates running for local, state and national offices came to Benson Thursday night to tell their constituents where they stand on important issues. Candidates were given three minutes to introduce themselves and explain their platforms to the crowd.
U.S. Congress Dan Mansell, the republican candidate for the 2nd U.S. Congressional District, took the podium first, calling for dramatic change in our federal government. "This nation is facing some tough times, and we have a lot of work ahead of us," he said.

Rivals see ways to cut pump prices

Back in August, when gas prices topped $4 a gallon and the calls to Washington were filled with anger, Rep. Bob Etheridge took a tour of gas pumps in his district to talk about oil buyers.
Up in Congress, Etheridge was pushing a bill to increase oversight of excessive oil speculation, which he thought was driving up oil prices. Down at a gas station in Clayton, he was met by his opponent, Republican Dan Mansell, who wondered when Etheridge was going to support offshore drilling.
Mansell, who owns a construction inspection company, says these days he hears anger about the $700 billion bailout recently approved by Congress. "People say we're becoming a socialist society," Mansell said. "Government is going to become the biggest holder of mortgages, and that doesn't sit well."

SANFORD — Republican Dan Mansell, who is challenging Bob Etheridge (D-Lillington) for his seat in Congress, spoke Tuesday to the Lee County Young Republicans about his ideas for fixing the nation’s energy policy, winning the war in Iraq, ending illegal immigration, and implementing the Fair Tax plan.
